Good Reasons To Use A Metal Roof

If you are going to get a new roof, there are a lot of choices out there that you can choose from. They all have their pros and cons. One thing you can do is to choose metal roofing, as there are a lot of good reasons to get a metal roof.

Metal Roofing

A metal roof is most commonly made out of steel, but there are also roofs that are made of aluminum and tin. Copper can also be used as a roof, however, copper is very expensive, so it generally isn't used on residential roofing unless a little bit of it is used as a decorative element. Copper roofs do show up more frequently on civic buildings, such as capitol buildings. A metal roof can be painted to be just about any color out there so that it can match your house.

Fire Protection

One reason to go with a metal roof is that you are going to get some fire protection. The roof will just shake off sparks that may show up from external sources. For example, if you live in an area that has a lot of wildfires, you may worry about the sparks from a fire that could cause your home to burn down. However, with a metal roof, the sparks can't get a foothold. Having plenty of overhang will also make it harder for sparks to get to the rest of your house.

Energy Efficiency

Another reason to get metal roofing is that it can help with the energy efficiency of your house. There are a few ways that the roof can help. One way is that you can use to help reflect the sun's heat up and away from your house if you live in a hot climate. You do this by having your roof painted white or another very light color. Light colors don't absorb the heat so it can help keep your cooling costs down. Conversely, if you are worried about keeping your house warm in a cold climate, you may want to make sure that your roof is dark, either black or some other very dark color.

If you are getting ready to put a new roof on your house, you may be wondering what option you want to go through. Getting a metal roof may meet the needs you have for a new roof on your home. For more information, contact a professional, such as those found at
